Father Savina's Study on Bê: the Finals

萨维纳记录了长流话9个主元音,除了没有后[ɑ],与现今语音几乎完全一样。记有76个韵母,比现今语音少了很多。部分韵母有一两种变体写法,-m/-p,-n/-t,-?/-k尾俱全,没有-?尾韵,却用越南语的重声符号表示。由于当时还没有最小对立法,萨维纳的记音记混的词不少,但大多数词的记音依然精准。

Savina has recorded 9 main vowels of the Bêlanguage(Changliu or Noliu dialect),only one back open[ɑ]lacking in contrast to our main vowel system,and 76 finals,much fewer in comparison to our fieldwork results.Some finals have one or two variant transcriptions.There is a contact system of paired nasal and stop codas-m/-p,-n/-t and-?/-k,while the glottal stop coda-?is not notated as such but transcribed with the Vietnamese N?ng tone.Most of the Bêwords in Savina's dictionary are recorded with precision,though,due to an ignorance of the“minimal pair”method in his days,many words are confused with others.
