Objective In this study,we discussed the effects of different audiovisual cues on the pitch of hearing impaired preschoolers, providing possible methods for their speech rehabilitation. Methods A total of 15 well-rehabilitated hearing impaired children, aged at 4~6 years, were involved in the study.Another 15 children with normal hearing and similar gender and age distribution were taken as control. All the children were required to repeat the sentence of"I go to school with my mom"in sad, happy and calm tones under both auditory and audiovisual cues. The MSF0s were recorded and analyzed. Results There were no significant differences in MSF0s between hearing impaired and normal children neither under auditory nor audiovisual cues(P>0.05).However,different tone cues significantly affected the MSF0 in hearing impaired children(P<0.01).The highest MSF0 were recorded in the happy tone while the lowest in the sad tone. The MSF0s in normal hearing children were significantly higher than those in hearing impaired ones under different tones(P<0.05).Conclusion The different tones in audiovisual cues significantly affect the pitch and pitch changing in hearing impaired children, which may help for the pitch therapy in hearing impaired children with good inhabilitation.
