“Gugu”,a Mongolian woman’s high-crown headdress in the Yuan dynasty, originated from the Mid-ancient Mongolian term“breast”,which was called k kül.It originally referred to the“braids”of women rather than the high crown. At first,“gugu”and“bogtak”did not refer to the same thing. From the perspective of cognitive linguistics,k kül was also used to refer to the male bristles, the crown of the horse, the crown of some birds, and the crown of some plants, all of which resembled“breast”.Related field surveys have concluded that“gugu”as a female headwear has rich metaphorical implications, that is,the symbolic meaning of“women of childbearing age”.The Mongolians in the Yuan dynasty believed that the“gugu”crown was sacred and had rich folkloristic implications.
