在20世纪三十年代,日本帝国主义逐步扩大对中国的侵略。在面临亡国灭种的紧要关头,许多佛教徒投身到抗日救国的洪流之中,对日本佛教徒进行抗日宣传。他们注重揭露日本侵华对世界和平及其本国的危害,分析日本必败的原因,指出和平共处是中日两国关系的光明大道,呼吁日本佛教徒制止本国政府的侵略行为,并批判了日本部分民众和佛教徒对本国侵略政策的盲从。这种宣传是近代宗教外交的重要组成部分,对当代亚太地区民间外交的开展有借鉴价值。

In 1930s,Japanese imperialism gradually expanded the aggression into China.At the crucial moment of the nation,many Buddhists devoted to the career of resisting Japanese invaders and saving the nation,so they participated in the advocacy for the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression among the Japanese Buddhists.They exposed the harmful effects of Japanese aggression on world peace and Japan,analyzed the reasons for the inevitable failure of Japanese invaders,pointed out that the peaceful coexistence of China and Japan is the right way for the development of the relationship between the two countries,called on the Japanese Buddhists to stop the aggression of Japanese government and criticized the blind obedience of some Japanese and Buddhists for the country s aggression policy.Their advocacy is an important part of modern religious diplomacy,and has a reference value for the development of contemporary folk diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region.
