Vladimir Nabokov is a well-known Russian-American novelist in the 20th century. As his masterpiece,Lolita has gained great attention upon its publication. It tells an unethical love story between Humbert,a middle-aged widower and his twelve year old step-daughter Lolita. The classic elements of modernist novels, such as parody, intertextuality, collage and so on,have attracted many critics to discuss from different angles.Focusing on the psychological characteristics of Humbert,on the basis of close-reading the text,Humbert's psychological features are analyzed, his throb is disclosed. It is found that the trauma of Humbert's childhood and the abnormal sensual psychology caused by the traumatic memory are the root of his attempt to take fairy tales as his own words but eventually cause his doom.
