Change of Xu Xu's Religious Idea: A Perspective of His Literary Works

徐訏是个具有宗教情感的作家,他创作的许多小说都具有浓厚的宗教色彩。纵观徐訏一生,徐訏从早年到晚年对宗教的认识和态度有一个发展、转变的过程,从最初的对佛教与基督教教义的隔膜与误解,之后逐步走近宗教,到晚年的受洗成为天主教徒。徐訏深刻认识到人性中的缺陷以及宗教精神对于人类精神世界的救赎意义,认为具宗教感的爱能净化灵魂和提升人类的精神世界,克服人性中贪婪、残暴等种种缺陷,让人类接近真正的和谐与幸福。

Xu Xu was a writer with religious emotions and many of his novels presented thick religious color.His understanding and attitude toward religion changed throughout his life.He had once misunderstood Buddhism and Christianity then gradually accepted religion and finally was baptized to be a Catholic.Xu Xu was deeply aware of the limitations of human nature and the redemptive significance of religious spirit to human spiritual world.He believed that religiously inspired love can purify the soul,lift the human spirit,overcome the defects of greed and cruelty in human nature and make human beings to approach true harmony and happiness.
