A Study on How Fresh off the Boat Challenges the Stereotyped Chineseness

随着中美交流的不断加深及中国影响力的增强,美剧中的中国元素和中国面孔也在逐渐增多,但大多是定型化了的负面形象。本文以第一部以亚裔家庭为主角的情景喜剧《初来乍到》为研究对象,旨在分析其对美剧中华人定型化形象的颠覆。

As Sino-US exchanges and communications become more frequent and China’s influence in the world increases,there are more and more Chinese elements and faces showing up in American TV series.However,many of them are negative stereotyped images.This essay focuses on the study of Fresh off the Boat,the first American TV series telling stories about a Chinese-American family and makes an analysis on how it subverts the stereotyped Chineseness.
