There are many special properties of Guerbet alcohol because of its unique molecular structure.Guerbet alcohol and reaction mechanism of general synthetic strategies,two kinds of synthesis process conducted primary alcohol as the raw material and α-olefin as the raw material, and application of Guerbet alcohol in the field of lubricants,surfactants,pharmaceuticals,cosmetics and others were introduced in the paper.In the end,the idea of preparing Gerbert alcohol from indirect coal liquefaction product is put forward.
