Both the maritime and overland silk roads are functioned as important passages for China’s international exchange.During the Han Dynasty and the Weijin Southern and Northern Dynasties,Dunhuang and Lingnan Region enjoyed a smoother traffic and more frequent communication due to the great efforts by the monks who promoted Buddhism, regardless of such a great distance between them. What is really prominent and beyond imagination of the descendants is that Dunhuang, the silk road on northwest China, had interacted so frequently with the Lingnan Region, mainly based on the activities of monks. Moreover,it is noteworthy that many monks, among the ones who traveled to the west by sea to seek scriptures, were born in Dunhuang or along the silk road which also highlights the importance of the maritime silk road and Lingnan Region in the introduction of Buddhism to the east.
