Green Bulldozer:The Rise of Your New Homeland is the first documentary about the urban renewal and social movement in the Chinese-speaking area. This article focuses on the experience of community space shaped by the documentary,as well as the process and significance of the resistance practice. It analyzes the complex negotiations and conflicts in the production of space, and examines the political, economic and socio-cultural factors behind the discourses and practices of the urban renewal at Taipei. The documentary provides an alternative interpretation framework for the urban social movement, which reveals that the dominant symbolic discourses on“greening”and“illegal construction”ignore and mask more crucial social issues, the social security of the demolished people and the publicity of public space produced by the logic of political power and capital. As the practice of video activism, the documentary challenges the dominate discourses of urban renewal, produces critical counter-discourse to empower the disadvantaged groups with the right to the city and spatial justice, and calls for new urban imagination and social change.
