Exploration on Sidney Shapiro's Views on the Translation of Chinese Literary Works

通过分析沙博理的18部代表性译作,发现沙博理在其整个翻译生涯中始终保持着浓厚的中国情怀、明晰的目的语读者意识以及适度的调和策略。具体而言,沙博理在翻译中表现出对中国共产党的赞颂之情及对中国文化的欣赏与热爱之情。其翻译精准把握了中西语言与文化的差异,充分关照了目的语读者的阅读习惯与接受能力,对译文的忠实性与可接受性进行了合理的平衡,对中西语言与文化进行了适当的调和。

Through a diachronic and synchronic comparison analysis of Shapiro's18translated works,this article finds out that Shapiro always maintains his deep love for China,keeps clear readership awareness and adopts harmonic strategies.To be specific,in his translation,Shapiro expresses his admiration for the Chinese Communist Party as well as his appreciation and love for Chinese culture;he masters the differences between Chinese and western language and culture;he pays obvious attention to the target readers'reading habits and interests;he achieves a sound balance between the faithfulness and the acceptability of the translated texts as well as arrives at an appropriate mediation between Chinese and Western language and culture.
