Teaching and Learning Chinese Language Online: What and Why?

本文首先介绍什么是在线中文教学,对不同教学模式进行了分类并用实例解释了在线教学和远程教学、视频教学等相关术语之间的关联。然后,文章对学习者为什么在线上学习中文做了分析,并根据不同学习者的具体情况将之分成四大类。文章接着讨论了与线上中文教学有关的几个问题,比如有关线上教学和面对面教学效果的比较,慕课(MOOCs)的优势和不足及当前中文慕课的状况,以及相较于中国国内目前火热的在线英文辅导市场,在线中文辅导的远景如何等。笔者希望能通过此文帮助读者对线上中文教学有一个宏观的了解,并能为有兴趣从事此领域教学和研究的有关人员提供些许帮助。

This article first introduces what teaching and learning Chinese language online refers to,explaining different instructional modes and relationships between online learning and related terms such as distance learning and video conferencing.The article then analyzes why learners study Chinese online,and groups the circumstances into four major categories.Next,the article discusses issues concerning online Chinese teaching,including the comparison of effectiveness of teaching and learning in online environments versus face-to-face environments,the benefits and problems of massive open online courses(MOOCs)and the existing Chinese language offerings in major MOOC platforms,and the prospect of tutoring Chinese online in comparison with the market of tutoring English online in China.The article intends to provide a comprehensive picture for instructors,researchers,and other stakeholders interested in teaching and learning Chinese online.
