A general survey of the names,origins and affiliations of the Khitan people in the 20th century has always been an important part of the study of the history of Khitan.The main reason is the disorder of the nomadic tribes in the north of China from the third to the fifth centuries and the simplicity and difference of the records of the Khitan nationality in ancient books,which led to endless academic controversy.Through history,ethnology,archaeology,linguistics and modern science and technology,this paper extensively and thoroughly explores the name,ethnic origin and ethnic affiliation of Khitan.The academic contention of the name,ethnic origin and ethnic affiliation of Khitan has promoted the all-round development of research in various fields of Khitan history.
