红楼梦中国特色物质文化负载词英译比较研究

Contrastive Study on the English Translation of Material Culture-loaded Words in Hongloumeng

研究比较大卫霍克斯和杨宪益在《红楼梦》两个英译本中的物质文化词的翻译。利用现有《红楼梦》平行语料库进行检索,在基于奈达的功能对等理论的条件下对其进行分析。得出结论是文化负载词的翻译没有办法做到功能对等理论的最高层面,即译本读者与原文读者的感受完全一致。由此,译者在翻译时,应当正确理解功能对等理论的本质,以便真正为翻译工作提供指导,而不是盲目追求绝对等值。

The study compares the translation of material culture-loaded words in the two English versions of Hongloumeng.The established parallel corpora of Hongloumeng is used to search,and analyze those words based on Nida’s functional equivalence theory.It is concluded that culture-loaded words translation cannot achieve the highest level of functional equivalence theory.That is to say readers of translation work and readers of original text cannot have completely consistent feelings.Therefore,it is proposed that translators should correctly use the essence of functional equivalence theory in the process of translation so as to truly provide guidance for translation work rather than pursue absolute equivalence.
