民国时期,中国修志事业进入了一个新阶段,各地相继开启了新一轮的方志编修工作。民国《上海县志》是上海县修纂的第一部民国上海县志,也是民国县志编修的重要成果之一。从其编修过程可知民国县志编修的大致轨迹:修志议案的草拟、修志局的筹备成立、资料的采访调查、体例目录的拟定、志稿的纂修与草稿的修纂等环节。且民国《上海县志》在资料的采访调查上兼具广度与深度,在体例篇目上有继承创新,展现了民国县志修纂的科学性与现代性,是旧方志向新方志变革的先声。
