Body Politics and Daily Modernity:The Urban Narration in Zhou Shoujuan's Social Allegorical Novels

文章主要从身体政治与日常现代性两面向,论析周瘦鹃1910—1920年代发表在报刊空间中社会讽喻小说的都市叙事,除考掘小说文本叙事中的"日常性"(everydayness)作为一种日常生活价值与表征的考古学意义,如何无声无息地赋予了社会前进、改变的一种重要基础与革命动能外,也探究在资本主义的运作机制及工业化的劳动分工之下,小说文本如何预示了身体、伦理与知识等现代化世俗大众须锤炼的自我技术,及小说文本空间所触及的现代化危机与伦理辩证。也尝试分析周瘦鹃如何以一种新的形式对应于新媒体、新主题、新时代、新都市,集中探讨周瘦鹃社会讽喻小说的美学结构如何廓绘出都市文化复杂流动、变幻莫测的文化症候,以突出上海都会空间中世俗大众多元共生的情感样态。在民国初期通俗文学的现代性历程中,又如何提供一种普世的浪漫主义真理,以调节传统和现代之间的裂缝,并绘制出世俗日常生活非同时的共时性的大众感觉气象图,而对位出上海都市文化完整的"片断整体性"。

From the aspects of both body politics and daily modernity, this paper mainly discusses the urban narration in Zhou Shoujuan’s social allegorical novels published in newspapers and magazines between 1910 and 1920. The paper explores the daily values and the archaeological meanings of the “everydayness” in the narration. It also finds out how this everydaness becomes an important foundation of social progress and revolutionary dynamics. It shows the basic techniques the masses should master in the capitalist society in the background of labor division due to the industrialization. It also touches the modern crisis and ethical dialectic. The paper also attempts to analyze how Zhou Shoujuan handles the new media, new themes, a new era, and new cities with a new form. It illustrates how Zhou Shoujuan’s aesthetic structure portrays such a complex flow of culture in cities. In the modernization of popular literature at the beginning of the Republic of China, Zhou Shoujuan provides a universal romantic truth to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity. He depicts the ordinary life to show the integrity of Shanghai urban culture.
