Yuanling of Hunan: The Mausoleum of Yu the Great(Part One)

古史传说中的治水英雄大禹陵墓所在至今尚无定论。《墨子》载禹葬会稽山,《山海经》载会稽山在楚南;司马迁在《史记》中认为禹葬会稽之山在江南沅水流域;考证沅水之畔的古沅陵县境内有会稽山地名,有禹庙、禹王碑、禹穴等古迹;又沅陵地名源于"元陵",具有"天下第一陵"的含义。系列证据表明:湖南古沅陵地区是大禹陵墓所在地。

According to legends of ancient history,the mausoleum of flood-control hero Yu the Great is still inconclusive. According to the records in Mocius,Yu was buried in Kuaiji Mountain,which is located in the south of Chu State from the records of The Classic of Mountains and Seas; while in Historical Records of Sima Qian,Kuaiji Mountain was located in Yuanshui water basin in regions south of the Yangtze River. Textual research showed that there was a place called Kuaiji Mountain with Yu Temple,Yu Stele,Yu Carven etc.,in ancient Yuanling county beside Yuanshui River. Yuanling also literally means the first maoseleum. Therefore,a series of evidence indicates that the ancient Yuanling of Hunan was the location of the mausoleum of Yu.
