外交话语中隐喻及其英译的修辞学解读

Analysis of Diplomatic Metaphor and Its C-E Translation from the Perspective of Rhetoric

西方修辞学关注修辞话语中的劝说和交流目的,而外交话语中的隐喻及其英译是一种具有劝说和交流功能的修辞行为。把收集到的2018年上半年中国重要外交讲话中的隐喻作为语料,采用定性分析法,从西方修辞学角度解读外交隐喻的修辞功能及外交隐喻翻译的修辞性与译者的修辞意识,认为:在外交话语中恰当使用隐喻可以明晰晦涩的外交概念,淡化矛盾冲突,并树立正面的外交形象;译者的修辞意识引导翻译策略的选取,使他在翻译外交隐喻过程中追求译文话语的修辞力量。

Western rhetoric focuses on the purpose of persuasion and communication in rhetorical discourse,and metaphor and its C-E translation in Chinas diplomatic discourse are rhetorical acts with the purposes of persuasion and communication. Taking China's diplomatic metaphors in the first half of 2018 as an example, with a qualitative method, from the perspective of rhetoric, this paper analyzes rhetorical functions of metaphors in diplomatic discourse and interprets translators'rhetorical awareness in choosing proper strategies to translate diplomatic metaphors. It is found that metaphor in diplomatic discourse can clarify obscure diplomatic concepts,weaken conflicts and establish a positive diplomatic image of China. Correspondingly,translators should be with rhetorical awareness so as to translate diplomatic metaphors rhetorically.
