On Media Literacy Education for English Major Students in the Course of "Foreign Magazine and Newspaper Reading"

英语专业时常需要接触国外媒体信息,他们的媒介素养关系到对外交流中信息引入与外输的质量,这就使得他们的媒介素养教育不同于其他专业。外报外刊阅读课程作为英语专业媒介素养教育的重要途径,教学中除了要培养学生的英语阅读能力,也应强化媒介意识,提高他们的信息选择、跨文化批判、信息创造和生产等能力。

Media literacy education for English majors is different from other majors in that they often need to deal with foreign media information and their media literacy decides the quality of information introduction and transmission in international communication.The course "Foreign Magazine and Newspaper Reading" is an important channel for their media literacy enhancement. It should aim at improving not only students’ reading ability, but also their media awareness. This can be accomplished through fostering such abilitiesininformation selecting, cross-cultural communication criticizing and information producing.
