Melting China and Foreign Countries:Wickham Zhou and Medical Journal

周维翰是晚清中西医汇通的代表人物之一,他以近代方式介绍西医,以"熔铸中外,保存国粹"为宗旨,在上海创办中国近代最早的医学期刊之一——《医学报》,组织创办最早的全国医学团体——中国医学会,对近代中国医学作出了重要的贡献。本文依据新收集相关史料,对周维翰的家世、生平及其创办《医学报》等事迹略作补充。

Wickham Zhou was one of the representatives of Huitong of Chinese and Western medicine in the late Qing Dynasty.He introduced western medicine in a modern way.With the aim of"melting and casting China and foreign countries,preserving the quintessence of the Chinese nation",he founded one of the earliest medical journals in modern China,Medical Journal,and organized the earliest national medical group,Chinese Medical Association,which made important contributions to modern Chinese medicine.The author collects new relevant historical data to supplement Wickham Zhou's family,life and the founding of the Medical Journal.
