On Translation Functions and Principles of Pictorial Illustrations in Bilingual Dictionaries

布拉格学派翻译理论家罗曼·雅克布逊将翻译分为三类:语内翻译(intralingual translation)、语际翻译(interlingual translation)、符际翻译(intersemiotic translation)。其对应于英汉双语词典中的三种翻译形式:词目译义,例证翻译,词目-词典插图。"词目-词典插图"与前两种翻译形式一样,具有相应的翻译功能和翻译原则。

Roman Jakobson,translation theorist of Prague School,labeled three kinds of translation-intralingual translation,interlingual translation,and intersemiotic translation.They are applied in English-Chinese dictionaries in the form of entry translation,example translation,and entry-pictorial illustration.As one of the translation forms,entry-pictorial illustration is equipped with unique translation functions and principles.
