Hou Fangyu and Jiangnan Culture in the Late Ming Dynasty

明朝末年,代表江南地主利益的东林党崛起,江南成为党争的重镇。江南士人结社风气盛行,形成了颇具规模的复社。复社诸多名士积极与社会底层的秦淮歌妓交往,使党争文化、结社文化与歌妓文化充分融合。他们的政治豪情、名士才情与佳人艳情相互交织点染,形成了独特的明末江南文化。作为东林后裔,侯方域兼有济世壮志与名士风度,又雅好声伎,其个性气质与明末江南文化非常契合。江南文化的熏陶使侯方域成长为明末文人的代表,他在江南的活动也为江南文化的发展作出一定的贡献。
