The film adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedies has followed the path from tradition to postmodernism.The early adaptations were in traditional form,mainly expressing the humanistic spirits.And from 1960s,Shakespeare's tragic films began to convey more characteristics of modernity and post-modernity.These adaptations,on the one hand,satisfy market need as well as audiences'esthetic tastes;on the other hand,they sharpen the insights into the factual social problems,reflecting the tendency of mass culture and cultural theories.Adaptation is a kind of creation.Therefore,it can be predicted that the adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedies will become more multidimensional.
