Edgar Allen Poe and his short stories exercise an immense influence upon the literature in the United States and around the world.“The unity of effect”,Poe’s core creative concept emphasized in his literary writings as well as the creative purposes of Poe,is intended to bring about the readers’sympathy with his artistic effect to the greatest extent.The unique horror experiences,the most remarkable artistic effect Poe’s Gothic short stories are designed to bring to readers,are the secret for the popularity of Allan Poe’s Gothic short stories.As the source of horror,the Gothic imagery demonstrates its uniqueness in bringing readers multiple horror experiences.This paper is intended to analyze with 16 short stories like The Fall of the House of Usher by Poe how“the unity of effect”influences the general readers,namely,how Poe’s Gothic novels bring readers multiple horror experiences from a multidimensional perspective.
