Portrait of Weapons in Ancient Chinese Novels

为探究古代小说中的兵器书写反映的古人对战争的想像与思考,以及作者对小说虚构的自觉.以中国古代小说中的兵器为研究对象,以社会历史批评与细读批评相结合的方法进行比较分析,梳理作为文学书写对象兵器的主要类型、表现特征以及叙事功能,在此基础上探寻古代小说的创作规律.研究表明:古代小说中的兵器多呈神秘化、象征化、人格化等特点,小说兵器书写目的有时不在器物本身,而在于为塑造特定人物或承担叙事线索功能以及构成某种特定情节模式提供必备要素.

The portrait of weapons in ancient Chinese novels not only reflects the ancients’imagination of and reflection on wars but embodies their authors’consciousness of fiction.This paper makes an analysis of the weapons in ancient Chinese novels by the methods of social and historical criticism and close reading criticism,sorting out their main types,features and narrative functions,on the basis of which,the creation rules of ancient novels are explored.The study shows that the weapons in ancient novels are characterized by mystification,symbolization and personification.The purposes of describing weapons do not always lie in the weapons themselves,but in shaping specific characters,functioning as narrative clues or providing necessary elements for certain plots.
