功能对等论指导下的名称英译——以我国七大流域管理机构名称英译为例

English Translation of Place Names Guided by Functional Equivalence: An Example of the Organization Names of the Seven Major Rivers Management in China

翻译水平参差不齐和翻译策略的不同给我国地名英译带来了较多问题,译名错误、混乱、不规范,一名多译的现象普遍存在。以我国七大流域管理机构名称英译为例,对其名称英译的混乱现状进行梳理,以奈达的功能对等论为指导,深入分析名称英译的几种交际功能,并提出七大流域名称英译的遵循原则和参考译文。

Different levels in translation and choices in translation strategies lead to many problems in the English translation of place names in China.Wrong translation or one place name with several translation versions is very likely to cause communication confusion.Guided by Nida’s Functional Equivalence,the thesis takes the translation of place names contained in the organization names of the seven major rivers management in China as an example to explore English translation of place names.Efforts have been made firstly to summarize the existing confusing translation of the organization names of the seven major rivers management.Guided by Nida’s Functional Equivalence and following the four translation stages proposed by Nida,the thesis probes the communication functions and special social functions in the translation of place names,puts forward principles for the translation process,and provides translation versions for reference.
