Further Reflections on the Communication between ZHENG Banqiao and YUAN Mei

诗、书、画"三绝"的郑板桥与"性灵派"盟主袁枚一生仅晤面一次,此前性灵相通,堪称知音同道,后却颇有抵触,扞格不入。通过其交游,可见其性格的方方面面,亦可管窥性灵派诗人的普遍心态以及"盛世"才子的幽人诗韵、归隐情结及其生成机理。

As the so-called“Three Superbs”in poetry,calligraphy and painting,ZHENG Banqiao had only one meeting in his lifetime with YUAN Mei,the master representative of sentimentalism.They first shared much in common and regarded each other as poetic soul mates.Unfortunately,contradictions led to their final separation.Many aspects of their characters can be illustrated through their contact experience,besides the common psychology of sentimentalism poets.Included in it are their poetic beauty,their complex yearning for the countryside solicitude,and the social mechanism of these gifted scholars in the“flourishing age”.
