The features and advantages of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) were introduced in the field of search and rescue (SAR) operations , especially in the beach and offshore SAR operations the application of UAV was reviewed. The prospects of UAV were discussed when used in maritime combat SAR operations such as medical materials delivery and sea casualty transport. Also, some key issues were suggested to be emphasized including endurance, environmental adaptability, flight control, signal stability and etc. It's pointed out UAV might gain outstanding advantages in maritime search and rescue operation with the key technology development.
