北汉是五代十国的最后一个政权朝代,存在于河东29年,与后周、北宋进行了多次战争,主要包括与后周发生了晋州之战、高平之战、晋阳之战,与北宋发生了宋太祖天宝元年、天宝二年的战争,公元979年,宋太宗对汉主刘继元招降,北汉灭亡。战争形势随着北汉实力的变化而变化,而辽对北汉的扶持也是其能够与后周、北宋抗衡的强力后盾,使其能够存在29年之久。
