王船山在《读通鉴论》中从刘秀与刘邦平定天下之难易的比较、刘秀的运筹决胜、平治天下的雄才大略、刘秀处理其他人事关系之得失等方面给了光武帝刘秀"自三代而下,唯光武帝允冠百王矣"的评价。

In Dutongjianlun,Wang Chuanshan compared Liu Xiu and Liu Bong in the pacification of the land under heaven,Liu Xiu’s devise strategies,great talent and bold vision as well his great talent in dealing with personnel affairs.He thought that Liu Xiu is the greatest emperor in Chinese history.
