随着新型城镇化的建设推进,旧城改造的压力增加,历史文化街区的保护面临着极大的挑战。晋江目前正处于新型城镇化快速发展阶段。晋江五店市传统街区具有闽南文化、华侨文化等独特的价值与特色,而现状街区存在着片区功能与所处区位不符,文物和历史建筑保护没有得到足够重视,传统建筑被忽视等问题。晋江五店市传统街区的规划,遵循整体性、真实性、多样性、合理利用及永续性、公众参与的原则。立足新型城镇化背景以及其它城市已有历史文化街区保护经验基础,采用"保护先行、分类保护"规划策略。
