The Influence of Economic Factors on the Use of Cantonese and Putonghua in Guangxi and the Strategies for Promoting Putonghua in Guangxi Autonomous Region

粤语和普通话在较短的时间内就成为广西的强势语言,这其中经济因素发挥着极大的作用。商品经济推动粤语在广西东南部的盛行。市场经济的发展加快了人员流动,促进了使用不同语言人群的广泛接触和交流,促使广西人语言态度发生了变化,调动了人们学习和使用普通话的自觉性、积极性。当前,广西应贯彻国家推普工作的方针政策,营造良好的使用普通话的环境;进一步解放思想,促进不同语言人群的广泛接触;推动市场经济建设,创造外来人语言适应的环境;加大对少数民族地区语文师资的培养力度,建立一支高素质的推普骨干队伍;加强交通、信息等基础设施建设,为推广普通话创造物质基础。

Cantonese and Putonghua became superior languages in Guangxi, in which the economic factors played a significant role. Commodity economy promoted Cantonese to be prevalent in the southeast of Guangxi. The development of market economy has accelerated the mobility of people, promoted extensive contacts and exchanges among people who use different languages, promoted changes in Guangxi people’s language attitudes, and mobilized people’s consciousness and enthusiasm in learning and using Putonghua. At present, Guangxi should implement the principles and policies of the national promotion of Putonghua and create a good environment for the use of Putonghua. Guangxi should further emancipate the mind and promote extensive contact between people of different languages;should promote the construction of market economy and create an environment for foreigners to adapt to their language;should strengthen the training of Chinese teachers in minority areas and establish a high-quality backbone team to promote Putonghua;Guangxi should strengthen the construction of transportation, information and other infrastructure to create a material foundation for the promotion of Putonghua.
