“霞山”地名考释——民族遗留地名研究

A Study on the Toponym of “Xiashan”

"霞山"是广东省湛江市霞山区行政地名,因霞山村得名,但"霞山"本身的含义和民族属性都不清楚。有人认为它就是汉语地名,但是经过考证,它实际上是一个壮族地名,就是壮族地名"下山"的不同写法而已。从粤语看,"霞"与"下"存在同音关系,而且在该地区古代有"霞山"与"下山"两个地名同时存在。"霞山"壮文本作"hazgodau",因节省音节变作"hazdau"。"霞"指茅草,"山"指桄榔树,"霞山"原本就是以茅草和桄榔树命名的一个古村落。

“Xiashan” is a district toponym of Zhanjiang city,Guangdong province,derived from the name of Xiashan village,but it is not clear about the meaning and national attributes of the name itself.Instead of a Chinese toponym,the research shows that “Xiashan” is actually a variant of Zhuang’s toponym.In Cantonese,there is a homophonic relationship between “霞” and “下”,both pronouncing “xia”.In ancient times,the two toponyms “霞山” and “下山” existed simultaneously.In Zhuang,Xiashan pronounces “hazgodau”,or “hazdau” for syllable-saving.Semantically,xia means thatched grass,“山” means “Guanglang tree”,so Xiashan was originally an ancient village toponym named after the thatched grass and the Guanglang tree.
