The Supplication for Local Officials to Remain in Office and the Local Public Opinion in the Song Dynasty

乞留即乞求官员留任。在宋代,地方民众或官员一般会向地方守臣、监司以及中央外派的巡使表达乞留,有时甚至直达中央诣阙乞留。乞留在舆情上达中扮演着正反两种角色,反映民意之乞留的上达有利于真正的清官得到升迁;地方官员或地方豪吏用乞留制造的虚假舆论则会扰乱中央对于官员的任职安排。

In the Song Dynasty,local people or officials express their supplication for the local officials to remain in office,which sometimes will reach the central government.The supplication which reflects the real will of the people can contribute to the promotion of the clean officials,while the false public opinion covered by the supplication of the local powerful officials can affect the appointment of officials.
