周作人的创作以散文为重心,在他身上体现了人和文同构的特征,因此可以把周作人散文看成他生命形式的表现。"智慧老者"是最容易使人联想到的周作人形象。周作人就是一个循循善诱的老者,他对一切洞若观火,以"智者"的目光打量和评判着现世。这种"智慧老者"的心态使得周作人的文体显现出两种状态:其一是他的文章整体风格平淡腴润,显示出"中和之美";其二是他的文章渗透着"忧郁的苦味",这是一种"智慧老者"的"寂寞"之苦。

The creation of Zhou Zuoren focuses on prose, which embodies the characteristics of the isomorphism of man and literature. His prose can be regarded as the manifestation of his life pattern. As a “wise old man”, Zhou Zuoren is very clear-sighted and good at inspiring and guiding. He judges the world with his wise thoughts. This mentality of “wise old man” makes the writing style of Zhou Zuoren present two states: one is that the overall style of his articles shows the “beauty of neutralization” with plainness, and the other is that his articles are permeated with “melancholy bitterness”, which is a kind of bitterness of the “loneliness” of “wise old man”.
