作为新兴学科的民族政治学,缘起于中国民族政治问题研究。随着政治学对民族政治问题研究的介入,新的民族政治知识不断增加,民族政治的知识逻辑愈发清晰,民族政治研究逐渐形成了完整的知识体系,进而形成了政治学的分支学科。在此基础上,民族政治学把各种民族政治现象置于人类民族发展演变的总体过程中观察和认知,在一个宏大的视野下进行民族政治知识生产,从而形成和凸显了学科的独特功能,并在民族问题研究价值取向多元化的背景下,从国家的立场和视角来看待和分析国内民族政治问题,确立了自己的价值取向,坚守了政治学的学科立场。民族政治学的发展已经取得了长足进步,但民族政治学的发展任务仍然突出而艰巨。民族政治学必须在面向现实的基础上强化知识生产能力,加强知识供给,完善学科的内部结构,有效回应人类社会民族政治实践的现实需要。
