Guardianship and Inheritance: the Scholar's Images of Yuan Dynasty in Lingnan Stone Carvings

存数不多的岭南石刻作品却开启了认识元代士人形象的另一扇窗。元代岭南地区士人是传统文化的守护者,他们克服重重困难努力兴学,弘扬儒家传统文化;他们通过树立学习榜样、接续诗文传统、扎实行政等方式传承并实践着古代士人之职责。

The Yuan Dynasty saw a decline in the historical developments of ancient Chinese stone carvings.The number of stone carvings in the Yuan Dynasty in Lingnan area decreased sharply,which was closely related to the politics,economy and culture of the Yuan Dynasty.These few stone carvings in Lingnan opened another window for us to understand the image of scholars in Yuan Dynasty.The scholars in Lingnan area in Yuan Dynasty were the guardians of traditional culture.They overcame many difficulties and made great efforts to develop their studies and to carry forward the traditional Confucian culture.They inherited and practiced the duties of ancient scholars by setting up learning models,continuing the tradition of poetry and prose,and putting politics into practice.
