Salvation Beyond Conflicts—A Study on Lord of the Flies from the Perspective of Spatial Criticism

当代英国小说家威廉·戈尔丁的长篇小说《蝇王》是以第二次世界大战为背景创作的,《蝇王》讲述了一群男孩子们在与世隔绝的海岛上的经历,以及他们在荒岛上如何堕落为野蛮人。作者把社会的缺陷归结为人性的缺陷,因此这本书是人性悲剧的寓言体。其主题是通过分析人性的罪恶来说明社会的罪恶。海岛上的物理空间,孩子们之间的社会空间以及他们的精神空间都折射出文明与野蛮的冲突。文章将从具体存在的物理空间,人物构建的社会空间和表征叙事艺术的精神空间来分析威廉姆戈尔丁的长篇小说《蝇王》中文明与野蛮的冲突,并通过冲突来寻求精神上的救赎。

Lord of the Flies,which was written by the contemporary British novelist William Golding,is set in the Second World War.In the novel,the writer depicted the depraved experiences of a group of boys on an isolated island.The writer aims to express the evil of society through the analysis of the evil of human nature,for he attributes the defects of society to the defects of humanity.The physical space on the island,social space between the boys as well as their psychological space reflect the conflicts between civilization and savagery.The objective of this thesis is to pursue spiritual salvation through the analysis of these conflicts from the perspective of spacial theories.
