"吹嘘"一词作为现代汉语常用词与古代汉语中最初产生的词义差距较大。"吹嘘"最早出现在汉代的词义为"吹"与"嘘"两词同义词的连用,为"吹气呼气"之义。经过演变最终在北齐时出现了吹捧自夸之义,在宋代以后开始被广泛使用一直延续至今。

As a commen word in mondern Chinese,the word "boast" is far from the original meaning in ancient Chinese.The word "boasting"first appeared in the dynasty,which means "blowing"and "exsufflation". After the evolution, it finally appeared in the Northern Qi Dynasty with the meaning of boosting. Now, It has been widely used since the Song Dynasty.
