An Investigation on the Elephant Taming in the Imperial Court in Qing Dynasty

清代宫廷的驯象源于缅甸、安南、南掌、暹罗与廓尔喀等东南亚各国的朝贡、云南土贡以及清廷采购,是清代中外文化交流的直接写照;驯象在清代朝仪与宫廷娱乐中更是扮演着重要的角色,丰富了清宫生活的同时也造就丰富的驯象吉祥文化。

The elephant taming in the court in Qing Dynasty originated from the tribute of Southeast Asian countries such as Myanmar, Annan, Nantou, Siam and Gurkha, Yunnan Tugong and the royal purchasing. It is a direct reflection of the cultural exchange between China and foreign countries in the Qing Dynasty. Taming elephant played an important role in the Qing Dynasty and court entertainment, enriched the life of Qing Dynasty, and created a rich auspicious culture.
