China has stepped into an aging society.Obviously, with the age increasing, the risk of various diseases/adverse events in the elderly population also increase. The available evidence shows that walking pace is an easy-to-use and practical indicator that can effectively predict the risk of future diseases/adverse outcomes in healthy middle-aged and elderly people. However, some important questions still need to be solved in order to apply the walking pace in practice. For examples, walking pace can predict what kinds of diseases/adverse outcomes, what is the mechanism;how to measure the walking pace and how to interpret the measurement results. Therefore, this study aimed to summarizes the studies reports on the association between walking pace and the risk of future diseases/adverse events in the recent years, reviews the previous studies, analyzes the existing shortcomings and prospects of future direction of this topic. It is expected that walking pace,as a predictor of future diseases/adverse outcomes, can be widely used in clinical and scientific exercise practice.
