Elizabeth Jolley(1923-2007)is a world-famous Australian woman author, whose Grotesque writing style had been the hot topic among critics. This paper manages to explore the hidden reasons behind, concluding that Jolley’s difference lies in that she took postmodernist narrative theories asthe guiding of her writing skills, which goes the opposite from the Australian modernist style.Focusing on peoples’psychological confusion, the super-realist desiresas well as moreself-centered sense of worth, she employs fragmentation, intersecting of fact and fiction, and paradox,in order toquestion more about the relationships between self and society, reality and imagination, tradition and reconstruction.
