Liang Qichao was one of the forerunners who advocated democracy and conducted democratic experiments in modern China.By translating and introducing western political theory works and investigating Japan,the United States and Europe on the spot,he absorbed the beneficial elements of constitutional monarchy and American-style democratic system,hoping to establish democratic system in China.His trips to Hawaii in 1899,to the United States in 1903 exerted a great impact on his political,academic and literary ideas.The perspective of literary politics is conducive to probing into the influence of American factors on Liang Qichao’s literary creation,and to better understanding the complicated relationship among literature,democracy and national fate in modern Chinese history.
