The Origin of Chashan Yao Ethnic Group

茶山瑶语属于侗水语支,讲话近于侗语。茶山瑶脱胎于湘西侗族,南宋初期,茶山瑶的祖先从湘西出发,随岳家军追剿曹成叛军来到广西桂林、贺州,又进入江西吉安泰和县、广东南雄珠玑巷,其后从广东辗转到广西梧州、滕县、平南,最后进入金秀大瑶山居住。茶山瑶十二姓,其中苏姓至迟在宋高宗绍兴十六年(1145年)已进入大瑶山居住了。

As the branch of Dong and Shui language family,Chashan Yao language sounds similar to Dong language.Chashan Yao ethnic group is originated from Dong ethnic group in the western Hunan province.In the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty,the ancestors of Chashan Yao people followed the army of General Yue Fei to pursue and suppress rebel forces of Cao Cheng from the western Hunan Province to Guilin and Hezhou of Guangxi,and then entered Taihe County,Ji'an City of Jiangxi Province and Zhuji Lane,Nanxiong City of Guangdong Province.Later on,they moved from Guangdong Province to Wuzhou City,Tengxian County and Pingnan County before they settled down in Giant Yao Mountains of Jinxiu County.12 surnames prevail in Chashan Yao people,and those with the surname Su dwelled in Giant Yao Mountains no later than 1145.
