时差、误读与颠倒——张竞《现代中国与“恋爱”的发现》试评

Time Difference,Misreading and Confusion:A Tentative Review of Zhang Jing’s Modern China and the Discovery of "Love"

张竞的日文著作《现代中国与“恋爱”的发现》在中国引起的注意不多。该书以恋爱为线索,将晚清以来西洋的恋爱观念、恋爱书写在中国的接受过程,以及日本在其中的作用作了细致的梳理。其所揭示的一些核心现象可由时差、误读、颠倒来概括。时差是指:以现代文明的价值观为尺度,西洋、日本、中国之间存在时间差,这构成了恋爱受容的大背景。误读是指:文化和社会背景的差异导致中国人对西洋乃至日本的相关观念、作品的接受是有选择的和变形的。颠倒是指:受容的产物则常常是一些难以由时差所暗示的明确、清晰的“时间之尺”来衡量的现象。

Zhang Jing's japanese book Modern China and the Discovery of “Love” has not called up much attention in China.It takes “love” as a clue,and provides a careful analysis of the receptive process of western conceptions and writings about love in China from Late Qing,including the role of Japan in it.Some core phenomena which are revealed by this comprehensive book can be generalized by time difference,misreading and confusion.Time difference means: taking values of modern civilization as criterion,there existed time difference between western countries,Japan and China,and this constituted a huge context for love reception.Misreading means: due to its special cultural and social settings,China's acception of western and japanese thoughts and writings was selective and distortive.Confusion means: whereas the outset for reception might be time difference,the products of it were always some complicated phenomena,hard to be measured by a clear time scale-although its existence was suggested by time difference.
