The Ballad of the Sad Cafe by Carson McCullers is the first masterpiece that is introduced in China. The three heroes and heroines in the book experience ups and downs as well as mysterious love and hatred, which reveals her consistent theme: the loneliness of love and the impotence of love. This paper tries to dig out other forms of loneliness besides love loneliness from a larger perspective, and re-interpret them in the Chinese context, revealing that the mini-world of cafes contains all sorts of loneliness in the hearts of the Chinese people. The increasing impoverishment of spiritual homeland has crossed the American continent in the 20th century and reached contemporary China.
