The relationship between Zhou Zuoren and “The Hundred-Plant Garden” has a long history, and the publication of “the Hundred-Plant Garden” column in 1951 was the concentrated expression of his efforts to construct memories in the face of Lu Xun as a strong presence, which reflected the relationship between Zhou Zuoren and Lu Xun after 1950. The narrator’s discourse itself has become a topic worth pondering. By comparing the first-person narration in Lu Xun’s Former Residence and Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk, this paper clarifies the concrete use of “I” and “we” and reveals the symbiotic and independent relationship between Zhou Zuoren and Lu Xun. Moreover, this paper also discusses the narrative subjectivity in Zhou Zuoren’s “reminiscences” through the invisibility of “self” and the contradictory form of emphasis in Zhou Zuoren’s “The Hundred-Plant Garden”.
