During the formation stage of Chinese spoken drama, Hu Shi paved the way for modern spoken drama movement with his Ibsenism , set the trend for the May Fourth spoken drama with his translations of Ibsen s dramas, and broke fresh ground with The Greatest Event in life for the development of Chinese spoken drama by imitating Western dramas to produce new dramas. Hu Shi is highly venerated in a centennial celebration of the May Fourth.
