英语世界五四运动研究的追踪与反思(二)——纪念五四运动100周年

A Retrospective Pursuit of May Fourth Movement in the World of English( Part Two)——To Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of May Fourth

近七十年来,五四运动研究是英语世界现代中国史领域的热点问题,也是海外中国学研究的重要组成部分,成果丰富、新论迭出,对国内的五四研究产生了不可忽视的影响。通过深入梳理英语世界的专著和期刊文献,可以发现主要的研究内容包括如下六个方面:历史过程、地区研究、思想观念、知识分子、文学与语言研究、文献编撰。主要的研究特点是:华裔学者是研究主体的重要组成部分;以美国著名高校为单位形成了师生传承的学缘关系;海外中国学的研究随国际政治格局的错动相应产生盛衰冷热的变化,五四研究亦然。全球化时代的五四运动研究的推进需要加强中西互动交流,追踪与反思英语世界五四运动研究的历程,最终目标是让五四研究成为多学科、多视角、多种方法交汇碰撞的重点研究领域。

In the past seventy years,the study of May Fourth has been a hot issue of modern Chinese History in the world of English as well as an important issue for oversea China studies.The plentiful achievements and new theories of this field have profoundly influenced the ideology of many domestic subjects.By going deep through volumes and journals of the English world,we can conclude that the main study is about the following six subjects:historical process,regional research,ideology,intelligentsia,literature and language study,and document compiling.The features of this research are as follows:most researchers are ethnic Chinese;the academic tie of mentor-student inheritance has been built in renowned American universities;oversea China Studies has been under the direct impact of Cold War politics,hence having the unpredictable wavering accordant with international upheavals.May Fourth study in the age of globalization needs to be promoted when strengthening the China-Western communication,to pursue and reflect on the proceeding of May Fourth Study in the world of English,with an aim of making the May Fourth study a crucial field where a multiplicity of subjects,perspectives and methodologies clash and scintillate.
