古诗英译中意象民族性与历史性的传递

Transfer of National and Historical Character of Imageries in English Translation of Chinese Classic Poetry

中国古典诗歌简洁凝练,包含着丰富而深刻的意象。诗人借助意象将丰富的生活内容和思想感情高度浓缩,赋予诗歌以深邃的智慧和丰富的意趣。诗中的意象往往根植于深厚的中华民族文化并与悠久的中国历史有着密切联系,换言之,意象具有民族性和历史性的特点。在翻译中译者应该尊重和保持意象的民族性和历史性。本文从这两个方面入手,分析比较中国古典诗歌意象英译中的得失,强调指出意象翻译中对意象民族性和历史性考量的重要性和必要性。

Chinese classic poetry is characterized with its conciseness in form and richness in meaning, mainly thanks to the wide use of imagery into which the poets condensed their true thoughts and feelings and with which the poems are endowed with profound wisdom and enduring charm. The imageries in Chinese classic poems are often deeply embedded in the profound Chinese culture and closely connected with Chinese history;in another word, they are inherent of national character and historical character which demand that the translator should keep in mind respecting and retaining them in imagery translation. Hence the author stresses the significance and necessity of taking the two characters into account in translation, mainly through analyzing and making comparison among different translation versions of Chinese classic poems from the two perspectives.
